Nairobi Green Week

The Nairobi Green Week, a first for Kenya’s capital city and east Africa’s trade and business hub, will be a series of activities and events run during the week of the Green Business Africa Summit & Expo 2010.

In his New Year’s message on the stroke of midnight on 1 January, president Mwai Kibaki boldly declared 2010 to be Green Year for Kenya. “Let us make 2010 the green year for Kenya”, he said,  signalling reinvigorated efforts toward making the east African country “a green economy”.

The Nairobi Green Week will be a joint effort and a strategic partnership between several institutions and partners. The climax of the Week will be the World Environment Day festivities in Nairobi on June 5, 2010 immediately after GBASE2010.

The Nairobi business community, government and quasi-government institutions will work together on a common public-private partnership to embrace green and sustainable business while enhancing the Global Green Economy.

Nairobi city, which hosts the global headquarters of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will be awash with green during the week of 30 May – June 5, 2010 where a wide range of activities and events will be on display to chart out a green approach to business.

The Week will explore the creation of jobs, and improved communities but it will also put forward a formidable, sustainable agenda on protecting the environment in the city once known as the “Green City in the Sun”.
